Jesus, this is me. I wish people would just tell me the price, and I could trust that they’re not just trying to haggle, or stiff me. I always just start with what I’ll accept.

We got new doors on the house this year, and it took me a while to get around to putting the “No Soliciting” sign up. Immediately started getting door-to-door sales. One does this spiel:

Him: “Normally, the initial cost is the big one, $600, because we have to bring out the truck, but we’re in the neighborhood doing all of your neighbors so we can take off $300.”
Me: “No thanks, I’m not interested.”
Him: “I really want to win your business, so I’ll take off another $100.”
Me: “No thanks, I’m not interested.”
Him: "I don’t know if you look at Google reviews, but we’re number 1! And, look, I really want your business, so I’ll take off another $100!”

And I’m thinking, “so, what you’re telling me is that you jacked up a fake up-front cost for suckers to use in the sales pitch,” and it’s having the opposite effect on me. The more he’s “knocking off” cost, the more it feels like he’s running a scam.

It’s one of the things I hate most about capitalism: the behaviors and lying it encouraged.

I love bats, and fruit bats are adorable.

Unchecked capitalism and technology created an environment that is not healthy to grow up in. Also, we’re still apes and physical attractiveness has an unbalanced influence on our decisions. Also, we are not biologically monogamous, but many cultures indoctrinate children with those values, which confuses everyone.

I’ll say, the read was a rollercoaster I’m too old to identify with, but all of the parts are products of an unhealthy society.

It’s a challenging time in which to be a young person, much less an attractive, young woman - I’m assuming attractive if she’s got that many simps.

I had a Honda Nighthawk 650 once. The perfect bike, for me, if a little underpowered. But it was comfortable to ride, not too heavy, and looked good.

But it always had electrical problems, and I could never figure them out myself. It would just sporadically have a phase where the starter wouldn’t turn over. I had it in the shop off and on for about 6 years, and finally gave up on it. Never replaced it, didn’t keep up my license, and haven’t ridden in years.

If I ever do take up riding again (which will be an epic fight with the wife who’s mom was a nurse, and is dead set against me riding motorcycles), I want something in that form factor again. I keep looking at Ducatis.

Anyway, electrical issues are the worst.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! I’ve worked with a ton of Indians (software development, East coast US), and I picked that up from one of them. It hadn’t occurred to me to verify it, mainly because it wasn’t critical knowledge for me; just trivia.

I had a pretty good Enterprise model, with nacelles and everything, pretty early in the game running on nuclear, before I had fusion. Half of the saucer was full of lasers and capacitors, because I wanted Star Trek with phasers, dammit! It was fine on the inner planets, but got utterly annihilated on the way to Aquilo. I gave up on lasers in space after that.

Oh, the side ones suck. Promethium asteroids in particular, I find, often blow chunks toward you at higher speed. Very not cool.

I’m using reprocessing heavily, and leveraging the circuit network to balance it. It’s basic; I think I need to use some other circuit tools to make decisions based on cardinality ratios, rather than just hard-coded numbers.

That, and thinking about making a floating factory that generates black potions, rather than a glorified cargo ship. And tuning.
