What happened?

Change the way you sort your posts (all, hot, etc.) while in the sub, that fixes it for me on Sync.

Unfortunately, local legislation forces me to yield access for something like an extension. Bigger is better for the root ball in this situation?

I haven’t yet, my biggest worry is the workers building the extension will step on them constantly. Will cutting them back allow them to survive being stepped on?
